About

The Concordia Gymnastics Society (a.k.a. The Concordia Turners) was founded in 1875 at the corner of 13th & Utah in the Concordia Park area of South St. Louis.

The Concordia Turners were just one of numerous Turner Halls (or Turnvereins) that dotted the St. Louis landscape during the second half of the 19th century. All of these societies were members of the larger American Turners organization, which was founded in this country in 1848, with the first Turner Hall in Cincinnati.

The Turner organization originated in Germany, where it still thrives today.
