About Concordia Turners
The Concordia Gymnastics Society (a.k.a. The Concordia Turners) was founded in 1875, with the original hall located at the corner of 13th & Arsenal in the Concordia Park area of South St. Louis.
The Concordia Turners were just one of numerous Turner Halls (or Turnvereins) which dotted the St. Louis landscape during the second half of the 19th century. All of these societies were members of the larger American Turners organization, which was founded in this country in 1848, with the first Turner Hall in Cincinnati.
The Turner movement originated in Germany, where it still thrives today.
